It’s homecoming week at Sacramento State and this year the Hornets are celebrating in style. In addition to the football festivities, Sacramento State will host the National Guard FLW Outdoors College Fishing Festival and Regional Championship.

The College Fishing Festival and Regional Championship will run from Oct. 7-9, and will include three concerts, tailgate games and the Regional Championship weigh-ins in addition to a ropes course and free pizza following the Homecoming football game.

Festivities kick off Thursday, October 7 with cover band Wonder Bread 5 rocking out at 2:30 p.m. in Lot 8 next to Hornet Stadium. Fans can also take a crack at the casting range, test drive a Chevy or ride a surfboard simulator. Fans should stick around for the first round of weigh-ins for the FLW College Fishing Regional Championship. Twenty college fishing teams will weigh-in Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. before the competition is cut down to five teams who will compete for the Championship title. In the past, the Sacramento State team has placed as high as second place.

The fun continues on Friday, Oct. 8, when cover band All Fired Up hits the stage at 2:30 p.m. and again on Saturday, Oct. 9, as part of the tailgate celebrations starting at 11 a.m. Fans can throw their own tailgate in Lot 7 before the 2:05 p.m. football kickoff inside Hornet Stadium.

The Hornet football tailgate will include a climbing wall, live music, bounce houses, face painting and a Herky photo booth.

The festivities don’t end after the game; fans can stick around as the final fishing weigh-in takes place at 5 p.m. Fans will be provided seats and free pizza as the top five college fishing teams weigh-in and a Regional College Fishing Champion is crowned.
