HORNET WOMEN WIN BIG SKY ALL-SPORTS TROPHY FOR THIRD STRAIGHT SEASON

OGDEN, Utah - For the third consecutive year, Sacramento State has won the Big Sky Conference Women's All-Sports Trophy, it was announced today.

The Hornets finished second or better in the final five Big Sky women's sports, and clinched the title last weekend by winning their third straight women's outdoor track and field title. Sacramento State finished with 88.0 points, while Montana ranked second with 76.0.

The Sacramento State men placed fifth 47.5 points. Weber State won its second straight men's title, and 16th overall with a total of 79.5.

Counting both men's and women's sports, Montana narrowly edged Northern Arizona for the overall top mark, with the Grizzlies averaging 10.04 points per sport to the Lumberjacks 10.0 average. Sacramento State placed third with a 9.67 average, with Eastern Washington (8.75) and Weber State (8.17) rounding out the top five.

Points for the All-Sports Trophy are awarded based on finish in regular-season standings for soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and football. In cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field, and golf, points are awarded based on finish in the Big Sky Championship. The All-Sports Trophy standings are based on average points per sport. The Big Sky has awarded a men’s all-sports trophy since 1963-64, and a women’s all-sports trophy since 1988-89.

Of the eight women's sports offered by the Big Sky, Sacramento State placed in the top two in five. Along with winning the outdoor track & field championship, the Hornets also secured their ninth straight women's tennis title and the indoor track and field title. The Hornets finished second in golf, and in a three-way tie for second in women's basketball.

Including the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation title in men's soccer, Sacramento State has won five conference titles so far this season, and 26 over the last four years.
