STUNT TEAM TO COMPETE AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS THIS WEEKEND

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento State will be represented at the Div. I College STUNT Association National Championships on Friday and Saturday at SMU in Dallas. The Hornets are seeded second and are one of just four teams invited to compete in Div. I bracket.

Sacramento State will open against third-ranked Michigan State on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. PT. The other half of the bracket will see top-seeded Oklahoma State face No. 4 Texas Tech at 10:45 a.m. PT. The two losing teams will battle in an elimination match at 3 p.m. while the winners will face one another at 4:15 p.m. The championship match will come on Sunday, April 30, at 1:30 p.m. PT and can be seen online via ESPN3.

The Sacramento State STUNT team is made up of female members of the Hornets' cheerleading squad. The format of the competition pits two schools performing against each other simultaneously in identical routines. Each competition is divided into four quarters (partner stunts, pyramid and tosses, jumps and tumbling, and team performance). Each round is scored by judges and the team with the highest point total wins.

This year is the sixth season of competition for the Hornet STUNT team and marks the third time they have qualified for the national championships. The Hornets finished fourth in the 2016 event.
